In the 1920s, the New Orleans–born “piano king” Jelly Roll Morton created performances on piano rolls, regarded as superior to sound recordings of the day. Piano-roll scholar Artis Wodehouse has converted 12 of Morton’s original piano rolls to computer data and recorded them on a Yamaha Disklavier.
